Upper Plains Snow

A low pressure system will bring the first snow for some across the upper plains this early week. A good swath of one to three inches could fall across locations such as South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Below is a map from AccuWeather.

Here is the very latest regarding the snowfall potential here in Middle Tennessee for tomorrow night. I would expect some type of winter weather watch or advisory to be issued later this evening or in the overnight hours. A COLD FRONT MOVED THROUGH MIDDLE TENNESSEE ON FRIDAY, BRINGING
NORTH WINDS AND COOLER AIR TO THE REGION. ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM WILL MOVE JUST SOUTH OF THE MID STATE TONIGHT, BRINGING
MORE PRECIPITATION TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE. THE WARM FRONT WILL REMAIN
TO OUR SOUTH, KEEPING THE MID STATE IN THE COLD SECTOR.
IN THE MEANTIME, A STRONG UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL CUT ACROSS THE
TENNESSEE VALLEY TOMORROW NIGHT, PRODUCING ADDITIONAL
PRECIPITATION, THIS TIME IN THE FORM OF SNOW AS TEMPERATURES
DROP BELOW FREEZING. ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO AVERAGE 1 TO 2

Snow Possible Saturday

Ok Ok. So I have been hesistant to post on this possiblity of snow that has been floating around for a few days. I still am a little hesitant, but I believe we are now within the realm of the models remaining fairly consistant. I will not post a call map this morning but look for one likely later tonight. Here is the run down on the situation though courtesy of the national weather service office in Nashville.

Cold Tonight

Well the warmer weather was nice while it was here. Today we have gotten back to some reality. Temperatures today have struggled to get into the 40's. Tonight, lows will drop well into the 20's, and we can not rule out some isolated area's dipping into the teens. If you had moved any plants outside for the nice weather, today would be the day to move them back in. A hard freeze can be expected tonight. As for the weekend system, I plan on taking the snow out of the 5 day completely a little later. Snow will prolly fly Saturday morning but no accumulation is expected anywhere currently.

Snow Saturday? No Way!

There are hints on some of the weather boards about the models showing some snow for Middle Tennessee on Friday night and Saturday. At this time, I have introduced some rain/snow showers into the forecast. I do not believe this will result in any accumulation. Though there is a low possiblity that some in our area could see a quick dusting on Saturday, anything more than that is really non existant. I will continue to monitor the chance however as the event draws closer. I am hoping for snow though. :)

Some light snow has begun to fall over the northeastern counties of our area. Here is at look at radar at 11:40pm.

Light snow will overspread the area later tonight from the northwest. Minor accumulations will be possible generally along and northeast of Interstate 24. For everyone else, flurries can be expected. A few locations along the extreme northeast cumberland plateau area could receive up to a inch of snow overnight. Snow totals should remain below advisory criteria according to NWS.

Snow Chance Update

I am not worried about getting my accumulation map up early today. There is still time for that, as well as time for the models to take the snow away. But, at 1pm this afternoon, the thought from this forecaster is still a chance of light snow on Monday night into early morning Tuesday. Again, I will prolly have a call map out late this evening if models continue to lean the way they are. This will not be a huge event, but it will be capable of laying down some minor accumulations. Stay tuned for more later this afternoon and evening.

Cloudy Today, Snow Chance?

Today will bring cloudy conditions for the most part with a few peeks of sun at times. Later this evening the clouds roll back in with a chance of a few flurries. No accumulation with this round of flurries. As we head into Monday, skies will again play peek a boo with the sun, but by Monday night into early Tuesday, some precipitation could breakout with an impulse of energy. At this time, it looks to be cold enough to keep the precipitation as all snow. I am not quite ready to go out on a limb and talk about accumulations, but if things fall into place just right, then portions of Middle Tennessee could see several inches of snow. At this time though, we will continue just to expect some flurries with a dusting of snow Monday night into Tuesday morning, though that is likely to change.

Snow This Weekend?

Could a little snow be on the way to Middle Tennessee this weekend. Some of the models are hinting at it, but will it really happen. I am working on that weekly planner and will have the forecast out a little later this evening. I will also post some discussion about the snow chance this weekend.

Updated Snowfall Accumulation

I expanded the flurries across the entire area as I do believe everyone has a reasonable chance of seeing some flakes fly early tomorrow morning. I dropped the half inch to inch and a half because the system is just not looking that impressive. These systems can sometimes bring a little more snow than expected but for now will lean on the safe conservative side and forecast no accumulation for most of the area, with only a dusting of snow in the remaining areas. I will update if neccesary, but does not look like an update will be needed.

LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS AND COLDER AIR WILL SPREAD ACROSS MID TENNESSEE ON TUESDAY. THE GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL WILL BE EAST OF NASHVILLE...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU. PARTS OF THE PLATEAU AND SURROUNDING AREAS COULD SEE MORE THAN AN INCH OF SNOW TUESDAY.

Cold and White Weekly Planner

A cold front will sweep across the area late Monday night into the early morning of Tuesday. The big story with that frontal passage will be the colder air that ushers into the air later in the week. Moisture will be somewhat limited with this cold front, but the very cold air will work to squeeze out every bit of moisture there is in the atmosphere. I think for most of Middle Tennessee, a nice dose of flurries can be expected. As for the northeastern corner of the area, a few spots could pick up a quick half inch to inch or more. Widespread accumulation and problems are not expected with this system at this time.

By Thursday, extreme Arctic air funnels into the mid-state. The next 7 days are going to be very winterlike. My eyes are turned on a system for next Sunday into Monday. It has the potential to create a wintry mess for our area with significant accumulations. Though the confidence in that forecast is low at this time, so will not include in the extended forecast. Just a thought about Voo-Doo Land.

1am Update on Snow, Lack Of

At one in the morning, rain showers were falling across middle Tennessee. Temperatures are in the low to mid 40's across all of middle Tennessee. Unless the temperatures drop within the next couple of hours, most of the passing moisture will just fall in the form of light rain. If we can wetbulb enough, we may be able to see some snow in the early morning hours. At this time, I just do not see much in the way of wintry weather tonight.

Snow Suprise

Some very big flakes falling in Pulaski tonight. Should not last too much longer though expect some areas in Middle Tennessee to see some minor accumulation tonight. All school closings for tomorrow will be posted to the right.

Evening Notes

• Some slippery conditions across eastern Middle Tennessee have a few schools delayed and closed tomorrow. You can find that list updated to your right.
• Winter Weather Advisory has been canceled for our eastern counties this evening, though caution is still advised in those areas for some slippery spots that could form with temperatures falling into the 20's refreezing anything on the roads.
• All snow flurries and snow showers, even to the east, should end after midnight.
